Artisan Information: Le Creuset was founded in 1925 in Fresnoy-le-Grand, a small town in northern France, by two Belgian craftsmen: Armand Desaegher, a casting specialist, and Octave Aubecq, an enameling specialist. Their first cocotte was glazed in a fiery orange inspired by molten cast iron, and the name Le Creuset, French for "the crucible," still honors the foundry where it all began. More than a century later, every piece of Le Creuset cast iron is still made in that same foundry, and their colorful cookware, stoneware and kitchen tools are loved by home cooks and chefs around the world.
